Goodbye to our Dear Friend

Ryan and I were informed tonight that are close friend, John Carter, died in the Guatamala plane crash yesterday. Here is a link to the story: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=4095091 I heard the news of the crash and since there had been so many that were making me sad, I didn't dare click and read about another one. What were the chances that someone I knew would be the one who parished in a crash in Guatamala? John's wife Lisa is one of my closest friends I met in college. We laugh whenever we walk into each other's house because we have the same style, so much so that we buy the same furniture, dishes, paint colors, etc. without even knowing the other already had it. They have 3 beautiful children almost the same ages as my kids and my Rachel is convinced 3 year old Avery is her long lost sister and loves to "babysit" her. Lisa is my one friend that I actually hang out with. She loved John dearly. Her only complaint about him is that he was so darn helpful. Go figure he parished in a accident on a service mission to help children in Guatamala. I could understand her complaint -I married a guy just like John. That is why we hung out as a couple. We had so much in common.

It will be so strange not to have him around. They built a beautiful home with their own hands together in Morgan. They have farm fields in their backyard. My kids love to visit their home because they have calves and baby lambs at their grandparents next door they can watch and bottle feed. They are the cool country "cousins" who aren't related. We have hung out with them since they started dating. Been together for all the pregnancies and have enjoyed watching our little ones grow together as friends. I love this family so much and am so sad for all of them. I'll stop rambling and post an obituary when it comes, but for now this picture of our kids out on their property a few years ago (John made the meanest fires and had the best stories that kept us laughing -oh we'll miss him so much). I'll scan some more pictures in from the good ol' days before digital cameras later.

Ethan (John & Lisa's oldest), Rachel, and Trent.

I don't have any good pictures of John handy, but he is the one in the red hat.

Ethan, Rachel & Trent in the truck. Ashton has the striped shirt on.

Jen, my husband called me in when they were reporting this story on CNN (Europe). Then I come on here and see that your friend was among the casualties. I'm so sorry. I had my sister's blog open while I was reading this post and her "When I'm Thinking about You" (by the Sundays) and it made it even more sad. Our prayers are with his family and friends!

It's such a small world and news travels fast. Just of all things that he was on this flight in Guatemala of all places.
