I did all my Christmas shopping in 1 1/2 hours yesterday. Okay, if you add my mom's help and multiply her efforts, it was probably 3 hours spread out by two people, but it is DONE!!!! For those who don't know, I hate Christmas shopping. HATE IT! In fact, I hate shopping in general. I really should enlist in the military, because I used that type of precision planning and timing to exert my shopping efforts.
It is so ironic how much I dislike gifts and that aspect of Christmas. I have worked with a Christmas charity for 12 years now, so I'm sure that contributes to my feelings. Christmas is way too focused on gift giving and receiving. To the point that parents desperately wait in line to apply for help for their children to make them happy and not get discouraged at school when friends are talking amongst themselves. It shouldn't be like that! But I am humbled when most of the applications are asking for simple things like deodorant for their 14 year old boy (one mom said her son stinks on the application -funny!), shoes, coats, snow gloves, and items that are necessary to have.
But everytime I step on a toy or have to get after the kids to clean up, I can't imagine adding to this collection of annoyances in my house that Santa is supposed to bring. Argh. At least my kids do get excited about the fancy soaps, toothpaste, and bandaids (yes, bandaids with cartoon characters on them) that Santa puts in their stockings. I'm so practical it's amazing. -Jenn
