Rachel! Uncle Derek bought her "M" magazine back in Washington. It's similar to a Teen Beat or other little person gossip magazine. My eyes rolled at least a hundred times at her breaking news announcements over which tween celebrity was dating who or cheated on who or whatever (thank you Derek, for giving me the premature opportunity to explain "cheating" to an 8 year old). Well, these magazines have contests to win CDs, DVDs, posters, etc all over the place. Rachel was convinced she'd win and spent her chore money for the week on stamps to submit multiple entries. I timidly tried to prepare her for the competition of other excited little girls across the world who may be doing the same thing as her. Daily, she asked me if her winning package had arrived, and her face showed slight dissapointment everytime the answer was no and the likeliness was slim.
Low and behold, a package came. She WON! Thankfully it was a DVD of "Bridge to Teribithia". Lovely film, but watch it only if you are prepared to handle the emotions that come with it. Tear jerker for sure. Rachel has beginner contest luck. I'm scrounging around for my Publisher's Clearinghouse envelopes and I'll let her fill them out. I promise to share the winnings with her.
